ABOUT
ELWOOD Elwood
is the county seat of Gosper County, Nebraska. As of the 2010 census, Elwood
had a population of 683. Elwood is a traditional small town in central
Nebraska. The center of town features several downtown businesses offering a
friendly atmosphere with personable service. The businesses of Elwood are essential for
comfort and good living. In the center of downtown you will find the local
grocery store. Not too far away from there you can find a convenience store
and gas station which also has a small motel. There is a drive-in coffee
shop, restaurant, implement dealer, and a well drilling business. Elwood has
an attorney, real estate brokers, insurance companies, newspaper, two banks,
and commodities dealers. There is also large grain handling, small manufacturing,
irrigation and salvage, a locker plant, and construction companies. A funeral
home recently opened and a number of small antique stores are in the area.
You will even find a doctor's office and pharmacy located in town. There are
fifteen new lots that have recently been rezoned for the building of
residences. The Elwood community feels blessed with an
excellent and beautiful recreation area. There are several area lakes and a
reservoir for camping and fishing. Wildlife surrounds the area for turkey,
pheasant, and deer hunting. The Gosper County Fair is held in Elwood and has
excellent rodeo grounds. The community owns its own carnival and volunteers
work to host the fair and carnival. People come from miles around to attend
this yearly event. A caring and well staffed Assisted Living
and Care Center is located not too far from the center of town. There is a
feeling of home-life that pleases many that are residents at the center. The
local Gosper County Senior Center features several activities including an
exercise program, quilting, puzzles, dominos, card playing, and bingo. The
Senior Center is also available for various events. Residents of Elwood take pride in their
community and play an active role in its care. The local newspaper keeps residents
informed of local news, sports, funerals, and coming events. The people of
Elwood have worked hard to keep their fire department and emergency medical
staff well equipped. There is also an excellent library as well as three
churches located in town. Elwood is very proud of its local school
system. They offer preschool through 12th grade education in one building
that includes the services needed by the students of the community. The
school has approximately 210 students enrolled for the 2022-2022 school year. The board has strived to keep the school updated
with the latest technology and completed an addition to the east side in
